Did you know that celebrities are using hypnosis? Ellen Degeneres, Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore, Billy Joel, Ben Affleck, Samuel L. Jackson and Winona Ryder stopped smoking with hypnosis. Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld M.D. of Fox News Sunday on 9/21/08, stated that "Hypnosis has been found to be the MOST effective way to quit smoking" !!Kevin Costner used hypnosis to stop his sea sickness. Martha Stewart used hypnosis and stopped her nightmares of jail with hypnosis. Fergie has used hypnosis to deal with stress and Tiger Woods gains the mental edge and actress Lily Allen admits to using hypnosis to lose weight.
Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy is used for many issues. Of course, we use hypnosis or hypnotherapy for weight loss and losing weight naturally, and to quit smoking, however, there are many more areas where hypnosis can help your life. You can use hypnosis or hypnotherapy for stress reduction, pain management, increasing your immune system, infertility, cancer treatment support, insomnia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, pre-operative and intraoperative procedures, speeding up healing, skin conditions, phobias of all types, anxiety, bed wetting, fertility issues and more. Since 1995 the National Institute of Health has strongly recommended hypnosis to treat insomnia (“Integration,” 1995). For those with sleep apnea, hypnosis can be used to diminish the sensation of wearing the CPAP mask.
Medical Hypnosis is gaining credibility! The use of hypnosis is starting to be recognized, as complementary, within the medical field as a useful technique in the treatment of certain illnesses.
In 1996, an NIH Technology Assessment Panel confirmed hypnosis as an effective adjunct in alleviating pain. In July, 2001, Scientific American stated, "Though often denigrated as fakery or wishful thinking, hypnosis has been shown to be a real phenomenon with a variety of therapeutic uses especially in controlling pain."
The Wall Street Journal in the October 7th, 2003 issue stated, "Numerous scientific studies have emerged in recent years showing that the hypnotized mind can exert a real and powerful effect on the body."
In 2005, Harvard did a study regarding the use of pre-operative hypnosis to relieve anxiety and a similar study was done in 2007 at Mt. Sinai Hospital regarding the use of pre-operative hypnosis for breast biopsy patients in speeding up healing and reducing the amount of pain medication needed during and after surgery.
According to the Mayo Clinic:
"Who is hypnosis for?
Hypnotherapy has the potential to help relieve the symptoms of a wide variety of diseases and conditions. It can be used independently or along with other treatments. For example, it's one of several relaxation methods for treating chronic pain that has been approved by an independent panel convened by the National Institutes of Health.
According to preliminary studies, hypnotherapy may be used to:
- Change negative behaviors, such as smoking, bed-wetting and overeating
- Reduce or eliminate fears, stress and anxiety
- Treat pain during childbirth and reduce labor time
- Control pain during dental and surgical procedures
- Relieve symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Lower blood pressure
- Control nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy
- Reduce the intensity or frequency of headaches, including migraines
- Treat and ease the symptoms of asthma
- Hasten the healing of some skin diseases, including warts, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis
A survey of psychotherapy literature by psychologist Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D. revealed the following recovery rates:
Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions. Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions. Hypnotherapy:93% recovery after 6 sessions.
